A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Well it is offical.  We are now parents.  Most have heard of Cayden Sebasitan Applefeld's arrival on 6/13/10 at 7:19 a.m.  Recap for those of you that missed it:  Water broke at 1:45 in the morning, arrived at GBMC at 3:30 a.m., admitted by 4:30 a.m., baby born at 7:19 a.m.  Which is really fast for a first time.  It was all natural childbirth, which had it been very long might have been horrible considering he was pushing on the siatic nerve for about an hour as he slipped down the birth canal.  It's the kind of pain that had I been someone that planned on drugs, nothing would have worked for that anyway, so good thing we were prepared!  As a funny side note, someone I used to work with ended up being my L&D R.N.  Small world.

So far things have been going very smoothly for having a 2 week old at home.  We manage to still get sleep, even if it is broken up.  The hardest part of right now is the 7 to 14 day growth spurt.  Which when you are breastfeeding, means baby on boob all the time.  Whee...

Keeping the post short, as that is how things have to be kept for now!  Pictures are on facebook for those that are friends.  Maybe some will be posted here at a later date, but no time for that now.  I hear someone fussing from down the hall.

Yesterday, sometime between the window guy showing up and me baking in the kitchen, the tree people came and went in a matter of 5 minutes without us knowing it.  We were scheduled to have the new Dogwood tree put in yesterday at any random time, so I had left the door open in case there was something wrong with the hole we wanted to use.  I thought I heard the mysterious squeaking of the front hose being turned on and off, but by the time I got outside no people were in sight, just a tree!

For those of you that don't know we had a Cherry tree out front the offically died between last fall and this spring.  We had it and the stump removed and wanted to put a new tree in place, one that was easy to maintain ourselves.  In other words, grows less then 20 feet.  So we went to a local nursery and picked out this white flowering Dogwood.

Dogwood Tree

There she is in our yard, all 12 feet of her.  We figure she can grow along with the baby.  So I guess it was ok that the Cherry kicked the bucket because now this can be our kid's tree.  I have to water it twice a week, so I am looking forward to the rains they are forecasting this time around.  Here is to hoping I don't kill the thing before fall.  Lucky for us all flowering trees are 50% off since they are past peak bloom for the season, but that still doesn't make them cheap!

Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes.  It was much appreciated.  I got to spend a nice day with Scott, which is good since I hardly see him anymore.  Kinda sad when you live with someone and you get about 2.5 hours of hello - goodbye time!

I hope everyone had a great Memorial weekend.  I know alot of people had pool parties, beach plans, and family trips.  So luckily the rain held off.  We will need some moisture soon though, so I'm kinda glad they are calling for some thunderstorms this week.  Just keep it away from my house and trees, ok?

The weekend is upon us and I have checked most of the post shower to dos off the list.  All the items have been washed and put away in the nursery.  Some house child-proofing has begun.  Anything that needed to be assembled by this point, has been.  We just need to work on putting the car seats in the cars this weekend.  All of the birthing books and dvds were returned to the library.  Now I'm more nervous about hospitals and forcing procedures on you then ever before.  Great.

I managed to take most of the return items back and use store credits to exchange for more baby clothes.  Everyone keeps telling me 6 outfits a day in the start, so we will see.  I don't want to do laundry every day so I guess that is one thing I would rather have more of then less.  Some more of the cloth diapers came in yesterday.  It will be interesting to see which brands work best.

The tree that died in our front yard was removed Tuesday.  At some point after they grind the stump and the baby has arrived, we want to go pick out a newer smaller one and plant it to grow with the child.  We have been thinking about a Dogwood.  Any other suggestions of small trees, that bloom and are east coast native?

This weekend was very full.  Scott and I spent all day Saturday in Chestertown at Washington College for the alumni reunion weekend that happens each year at commencement.  We hung out with some drama aliums, visited the old stomping grounds, and saw some WAC performance skits.  All in all a very nice time, but a lot of walking for was done.  I woke up the next morning with a rather sore back.

Which didn't help much being that the baby shower was on Sunday at our house.  It turned out well though.  Lots of people were able to make it out, and baby is set for the first year of it's life to say the least.  Everyone was very generous, and a lot of love and hard work went into the day.  We are very lucky to have such caring friends and family as part of our lives.

If you are a buddy you can see pictures of both events from this weekend posted on my Facebook page.  Today I am off to recover my family room from underneath the mound of baby swag, and do lots of dishes and laundry.
