Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the trend of declining cookies among the Girl Scout cookie box? Every year the boxes seem to increase in expense and decrease in product. Don't get me wrong, I'm still an avid fan, especially of the Tagalongs. My husband Scott adores the Dosi-dos.
Like so many others I was once a Girl Scout too. So I can understand and appreciate all the peddle pushing the little ones do.
Although it appears that most don't do the door to door circuit anymore. Either you are accosted outside a grocery store, or you've got to know a parent with a kid in scouts to place an order. The fact of the matter is, no matter how delicious your product might be, screw with the buyers long enough, and you won't have any left.
And during all my time in scouts we never saw the profits from the sales. I think there was a small percent that came back to the troupe, but where did all the rest go? According to the official Girl Scout site, "With every purchase, approximately 70% of the proceeds stays in the local Girl Scout council to provide a portion of the resources needed to support Girl Scouting in that area, including a portion that goes directly to the group selling the cookies. The balance goes directly to the baker to pay for the cookies." Wait a minute...what council!? I never saw a council!
